The news of his death comes shortly after after his appointment at the Italian maison

On November 10, Italian fashion designer Davide Renne—who had recently been announced creative director of Moschino—died in Milan of a reported heart attack at age 46.

The news was confirmed by Aeffe, the parent company of the Italian maison, in a statement that was shared by the latter on Instagram.

“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time,” says Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Aeffe. “Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon ... Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends.”

Renne assumed the role of creative director at Moschino on November 1, succeeding Jeremy Scott who departed the Italian maison in March, and was due to oversee womenswear, menswear and accessories for the Moschino main line. He was previously at Gucci for two decades, and had worked closely with former creative director Alessandro Michele, who also shared the news of his passing on his Instagram.

“My sweet friend, inseparable brother, so much love,” says Michele. “What an amazing and unforgettable journey we had together. You weren’t just one of the most talented creatives I’ve ever known. You were above all an irreplaceable part of a little tight-knit family.”

Renne had expressed excitement to take on this role, which he conveyed in his statement when joining Moschino: “Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi—‘the playroom’. This resonates deeply with me. What fashion, Italian fashion especially, and Moschino can achieve should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. I can’t wait to begin—we’ll have fun.”
