Be it skin boosters, lasers or a non-invasive lifting treatment, taking care of your skin post-treatment is just as important. Even more so when you’re on holiday

It’s no secret that many people often book themselves in for an aesthetic treatment or two, or even more, when they travel to Seoul on holiday. But beyond doing the research on which treatments to do and aesthetic clinics to visit, many of us don’t do much more homework after, such as caring for your skin post-treatmemt.

And since not everyone is going to be packing their entire skincare arsenal for a trip, what should you look out for when you skincare shop in Seoul? Use gentle skincare products after your aesthetic treatments for up to two weeks, regardless if they’re minimally- or non-invasive, as this will minimise any risk of inflammation, shared Dr Rachel Ho of La Clinic.

When it comes to skincare, Dr Ho also advised looking for active ingredients such as ceramides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and natural moisturising factors (NMFs) that will help strengthen the skin barrier. The key is to also keep things simple with a post-treatment skincare routine that consists of a facial wash, moisturiser and sunscreen.

“If you feel your skin is dry, consider layering your moisturiser with a hydrating serum or use a sheet mask,” Dr Ho added. But that’s not all. Being on holiday also means that you would want to relax and let loose, though your doctor will advise you to skip alcohol–horrors of horrors, after your treatment.

Said Dr Ho, “With injectables like Botox and fillers, drinking alcohol increases the risk of bruising.”

So if you do want to indulge, Dr Ho shared that you can do so after 48 hours. But it is always best to check in with your doctor because any advice given is procedure-dependent. The same goes for the use of makeup. “Makeup can cause dermatitis after procedures such as lasers and chemical peels. With regard to how soon makeup can be applied after the procedure, it typically ranges from one to seven days, depending on the depth of the chemical peel and type of laser,” added Dr Ho.

Your After-Treatment Skincare Routine

Let’s face it, very few of us pack skincare options when we travel. Fortunately for us, the popular South Korean health and beauty product chain Olive Young has everything you need to care for your skin post-aesthetic treatment. Here’s a complete skincare routine that you can pick up when you’re in Seoul to heal and hydrate your skin.

Step #1: Cleanser

Try: Torriden Dive In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam

Imbued with eight types of hyaluronic acid in different molecular weight as well as an amino acid surfactant that’s derived from coconut, this gentle cleanser removes impurities yet never leaves skin feeling tight or irritated. Perfect for even the most sensitive of skins.

Step #2: Toner

Try: The Lab by Blanc Doux Oligo Hyaluronic Acid Deep Toner

Packed with lots of hyaluronic acid, this new and improved version contains even smaller low molecular hyaluronic acid, allowing the product to be absorbed faster to intensely hydrate the skin from deep within. And yes, it’s great for sensitive skin too.

Step #3: Serum

Try: Wellage Real Hyaluronic Blue 100 Ampoule

Packed with moisture-loving hyaluronic acid, this lightweight (feels like a rich toner and not tacky) serum infuses skin with the moisture it needs while strengthening the skin barrier at the same time. Plus, the addition of aloe vera and butylene glycol actives also keep skin soft and soothed.

Step #4: Moisturiser

Try: Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream

This nourishing cream delivers intense hydration to your parched skin. Its key actives include a unique DermaON lipid-like ingredient that improves skin’s moisture retention. Combined with allantoin, squalene and glycerin, it attracts moisture and boosts hydration, leaving skin soft and supple.

Step #5: Sunscreen

Try: Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++

A cult favourite and winner of Olive Young’s Awards for two years running, this lightweight sunscreen not only protects skin against harmful UV rays and blue light, but it also keeps skin soothed and hydrated thanks to the brand’s signature amino acid-rich birch sap alongside glyceryl glucoside, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide too.

If you’re looking for protection and some light coverage–important when you can’t skip out on snapping photos while on holiday, consider the Numbuzin No. 3 Porcelain Base-skip Tone Up Beige SPF50+/PA++++. This tinted sunscreen protects and lightly conceals uneven skin tone for a natural second-skin finish. It also comes in a cushion compact option so you can stash it in your bag for top-ups and touch-ups anytime, anywhere.

Step #6: Mask

Try: Rejuran Healer Skin Protection Mask

Inspired by the iconic Rejuran Healer treatment, this hardworking sheet mask is enriched with c-PDRN (a version of PDRN or polydeoxyribonucleotide, which is used in the doctor’s clinic) to soothe, moisturise, nourish, brighten and keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay.

Want something a little more wallet-friendly? The Real Barrier Extreme Cream Mask is a great option too. The creamy essence is packed with triple ceramides, madecassoside (a main component of centella asiatica), allantoin, panthenol and hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin, while fortifying the skin barrier for a stronger and healthier complexion.
