Forbes has officially announced its annual list of Hong Kong’s richest people for 2022, with Li Ka-shing retaining his top spot for the second consecutive year. Find out who else made the top 10 below
On February 24, 2022, Forbes released its annual list of the 50 richest people in Hong Kong. While Hong Kong’s economy was revived by 6.4 per cent last year with an uptick in exports and domestic consumption, stringent Covid-19 curbs seriously impacted the Hang Seng index, which declined 16 per cent in the past 12 months, according to the report. Such mixed circumstances had brought the combined wealth of the city’s 50 richest dropped slightly from US$331 billion to US$328 million, Forbes added.
This year, more than half of the listees saw an overall increase in their wealth. For the second consecutive year, Li Ka-shing tops the list with a value of US$36 million (approximately HK$280 million). Following him closely at second is Lee Shau-kee, founder of property development giant Henderson Land.
