Singh Intrachooto is the chief advisor of the Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC), the knowledge-sharing organisation that promotes innovative and sustainable technology to enhance the community’s well-being. RISC, which focuses its work on non-toxic, low-carbon building materials, boasts a cross-disciplinary and silo-free learning environment with access to global research centres.

In January 2024, RISC co-hosted the International Forest Ecosystem Conference, where Dr Intrachooto presented case studies on eco-conscious real estate development such as The Forestias. Apart from the “Deep Forest” for researchers and ecologists, the chief advisor highlighted Forestias’ sustainability features like interior decoration that “focuses on natural materials such as wood and materials that emit little carbon” and how its “electricity, water, and lighting systems make use of nature and reduce pollution”. Raising further awareness about the climate crisis, RISC also released the Sustainnovation Book, a free resource that helps people create a better future for the next generation.

To help thousands of business leaders better understand the climate crisis, as well as guide their companies through an effective transition strategy, Sunita Rajakumar established Climate Governance Malaysia (CGM), the first Asia Pacific chapter of the World Economic Forum’s Climate Governance Initiative. CGM works toward the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by organising roundtable discussions, workshops and reports such as its low-carbon emissions study, where it highlights the actions businesses need to prioritise to reduce emissions.

“Malaysia, because of our mega-biodiversity, has tremendous capacity to prove itself as being an impactful and effective steward of the natural world, balancing economic needs with those of society and environment,” Rajakumar said in the report. “Therefore it is incumbent on all of us to promote impactful pathways for ourselves and our children whilst sustaining our one and only precious planet.”

On April 27, the sustainability leader will take part in Tatler Malaysia’s Sustainability Weekend, where she will speak on the effectiveness of climate change policies in achieving sustainability goals.
