All over Asia, these influential female humanitarians are leading and supporting organisations that empower vulnerable children
These women leaders from Asia’s Most Influential list have dedicated their lives to serving the most vulnerable—the marginalised, displaced, sick, underprivileged and at-risk children who need the care of child welfare systems. They are doing it in different ways, from creating safe havens to providing scholarships, but all have a common goal: to help children lead fuller lives.
Bernadette J Madrid, Philippines
At the Child Protection Network Foundation, executive director Bernadette J Madrid is working to establish a network of child protection units across the Philippines. Today, there are over a hundred of these safe havens that provide medical, psychosocial and legal services to victims of sexual abuse. The physician and educator is also a member of national and international organisations dedicated to the prevention of abuse such as the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance and Know Violence in Childhood. For championing children’s rights, Madrid has been named the Most Outstanding Pediatrician of the Year by the Philippine Pediatric Society in 2021.
