Tatler asked the wedding planner to the stars about the top wedding destinations in 2024 and how she brings ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ weddings to life
Stopping air traffic for fireworks. Transforming a national park into an enchanted forest. Transporting a client’s bed from their home to a private island. When it comes to wedding planning, there’s no request that’s out of reach for Singapore-based wedding planner, Lelian Chew.
“I’ve seen it all,” she says. “I don’t think anything is impossible. As long as there’s enough time and resources, we can make anything happen. Is it going to be difficult? Yes. But impossible? No.”
It’s this approach that has made Chew the go-to wedding planner for Asia’s elite such as actress Rebecca Lim and billionaire heiress Kim Lim. Chew is the founder of The Atelier & Co, under which she runs her two businesses: The Wedding Atelier and The Floral Atelier, a boutique floral design studio and retailer. And while luxury is her speciality, Chew says the next generation of couples are more interested in creating lasting, meaningful memories than putting on a show.
Tatler caught up with Chew to talk about the top wedding trends for 2024, how she plans ultra-exclusive “pre-opening” hotel weddings, and the growing importance of identity and culture in wedding ceremonies.

What are some of the top wedding destinations for 2024?
I believe Europe is ready to reclaim its romantic throne in 2024. After a year dominated by Asian wedding destinations due to the pandemic—travellers were reluctant to fly too far, too soon—couples are now turning their attention to Europe’s romantic allure. European cities have that perfect blend of rich history, picturesque landscapes and cultural charm that make for the perfect wedding photo backdrop.
I also anticipate that when China fully opens its gates to travellers, destination weddings in China will once again be in high demand. China boasts numerous stunning locations that appeal to both traditional and modern couples.
Why are destination weddings so popular among ultra-high net-worth (UHNW) couples in Asia?
UHNW couples often seek extraordinary experiences and exclusivity. Destination weddings allow them to host a one-of-a-kind event in a stunning location, creating a memorable and distinctive experience for themselves and their guests.
Many UHNW couples also value privacy and prefer to celebrate their special day away from public eye. Destination weddings in secluded and luxurious settings allow them to enjoy a more intimate celebration with their closest family and friends. More specifically, Asian UHNW couples often have strong cultural ties and take pride in their heritage. Hosting a destination wedding in their ancestral homeland or a culturally significant location allows them to reconnect with their roots and showcase their traditions and customs in an authentic setting.
