The multi-talented actress picked up the microphone for the first time in almost ten years, performing alongside her friend at the second weekend of Coachella

Zendaya, the Emmy award-winning actress of Euphoria, brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton and Bulgari, and advocate for inclusivity who’s stepped away from a singing career for almost a decade, surprised Coachella festival-goers on Saturday when she stepped onto the stage to join Labrinth during his set.

The following night she took to her Instagram stories to thank her fans for their support, and her friend Labrinth for orchestrating the surprise at such short notice. While short and sweet, Zendaya performed I’m Tired and All For Us, the audience still reacted with screams of excitement throughout.

The pair collaborated on I’m Tired, a gospel-inspired number, for season two of HBO’s Euphoria, a show for which Labrinth composes the score. While Zendaya was popular beforehand, thanks to her work with Marvel and on The Greatest Showman (2017), Euphoria was one of her first performances that solidified her as a skilled dramatic actress, and earnt her two Emmy awards (in 2020 and 2022) in the Best Lead Actress category. Making her the youngest recipient of the award ever.

Zendaya and Labrinth then performed All For Us, a track from the first season soundtrack of Euphoria, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music.

Music isn’t a new venture for Zendaya, as she’s released music here and there since 2011—including an eponymous album in 2013—but it is definitely not what she’s been best known for in recent years while she’s been focusing on her acting career. In the Instagram stories she posted last night, she thanked her fans for “welcoming [her] back on stage with open arms”.

“I cannot express my gratitude enough for this magical night,” she says. “Thank you to my brother Labrinth for inviting me and giving me the most beautiful safe space to be on a stage again. And to the crowd tonight…wow, my heart is so full.”

Could this be the year we see Zendaya return to the recording studio? If so, we couldn’t be more thrilled.
