1. From ‘R U Next?’ to debut
Illit was formed following a seven-round survival programme called R U Next?. The girl band was supposed to be composed of six members, as announced in the final line-up of the show: four Korean members (Yunah, Minju, Wonhee and Youngseo), as well as two Japanese members (Moka and Iroha). However, right before their debut, Youngseo’s exclusive contract with Belift was terminated, and the group debuted as a five-person act.
According to a global press release from Hybe, the name Illit is the combination of the phrase “I will,” representing an “independent spirit and an adventurous will,” and the pronoun “it” to symbolise “something unique.”
