Michelle Yeoh makes history as the first Malaysian to win Best Actress Oscar for her performance in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once‘
Everything Everywhere All at Once entered the Oscar race with 11 nominations and it went on to win seven awards. One of them went to Ipoh-born Michelle Yeoh who was named Best Actress, the first Malaysian to win in this category.
Yeoh dedicated the award to her mother whom she mentioned was watching the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur. Then the 60-year-old actress paid tribute to her contemporaries: "Ladies, don't let anybody tell you you're past your prime!"
The awards started with Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis winning in the supporting categories. Ke was the clear favourite to win in the Best Supporting Actor category as he had emerged victorious at every other major award shows including the Golden Globe and SAG.

In an emotional speech, Ke dedicated the award to his biggest supporter: "I owe everything to the love of my life my wife Echo who, month after month, year after year, for 20 years told me that one day that my time will come."
Ke, who has not had a major acting role since The Goonies in 1985, has been winning us over with his unfiltered joy at being the toast of Hollywood at the moment. "Thank you so much for welcoming back!" he declared on stage.
Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress over early favourite Angela Bassett of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Curtis first shot to fame in the horror slasher flick, Halloween, in 1978. "To all the people who have supported the genre movies that I've made for all these years, the thousands and hundreds and thousands of people, we just won an Oscar together!" she said in her acceptance speech.
