Ma Liqian, who’s married to tech billionaire and Sea Limited owner Forrest Li, is acquiring a Good Class Bungalow along Gallop Road for $42.5 million

Billionaire Forrest Li, founder of Sea Limited, the Singapore tech giant behind Shopee and video game publisher Garena, is leaving his family’s mark on yet another property along Gallop Road. His wife, Ma Liqian, is acquiring the family’s second Good Class Bungalow on this coveted, tranquil road near the Singapore Botanic Gardens for SG$42.5 million, this property boasting a 16,703 sqft plot of freehold land. She is acquiring this Good Class Bungalow from the children of the late kidney doctor Gordon Ku, founder of the Kidney Dialysis Foundation, who passed away in February 2023.

Conveniently, the property is situated next door to the pair’s other Good Class Bungalow, which Li has nearly finished redeveloping into a two-storey detached house, complete with a basement, an attic, and a swimming pool to beat the heat. This older property sits on a 15,100 sq ft freehold site and was bought back in December 2018 for SG$26 million.

Even with the luxury property market in a lull, Good Class Bungalows continue to be highly coveted in Singapore, valued for their generous size, low-rise appeal, and sheer rarity. These exclusive properties are located in very few select neighbourhoods and come hand in hand with strict requirements and planning conditions to ensure the preservation of their status, including a minimum plot size of 15,070 sq ft. Only around 2,700 Good Class Bungalows currently exist in Singapore, adding to their prestige.

Other recent Good Class Bungalow transactions include a property bought off Holland Road for SG$39.5 million by a scion of UOB, Singapore’s richest banking dynasty.
